The sea, storms, maritime cruelty

Valdrun is Malachar's daughter, and she inherited his conviction that strength determines right -- but none of the structural components that make that conviction function as a religion rather than a license. Where Malachar demands that his followers be strong and that they honour strength in others, Valdrun demands only the sea's due. What the sea's due consists of is her determination alone, and it changes.

She is genuinely dangerous to worship. Her favor is real -- sailors and pirates who make the right sacrifices receive it, and it manifests as uncanny weather luck, the sense of being watched over by something vast and indifferent -- but her disfavor is equally real, and arrives without warning and without clear cause. She is not arbitrarily cruel. She is simply operating on a scale where individual ships and individual lives are not a meaningful unit of consideration.

Her symbol is a storm-tossed wave. Her followers are primarily those who work at sea and cannot afford to ignore her, and those who have decided that her particular brand of dangerous favor suits them better than the alternatives.
