Monsters, nightmares, things that should not be summoned

Xaruun is the wife of Malachar and the Queen of the Pantheon of Darkness, and her domain is the category of things that should not exist in the world: the creatures that were sealed away, the nightmares that were contained, the ancient entities that were driven back before recorded history began. Her followers' practice consists primarily of attempting to reverse this. They summon things. They create things. They are frequently killed by what they summon and create, and they are, as a rule, content to be martyrs.

This is not self-destruction for its own sake. Xaruun's theology holds that the things sealed away were sealed by forces that had no right to make that determination -- that the ancient nightmares are not evil but merely powerful, and that their absence from the world is a wound rather than a mercy. Whether this theology is true is a question that tends to become academic once the summoning begins.

Her symbol is a tentacle emerging from darkness. It is the most honest symbol in the pantheon in the sense that it communicates exactly what her followers are trying to accomplish and gives observers appropriate time to leave.
