What records exist from this period are fragmentary and heavily filtered through later interpretation -- most surviving accounts were written during the Empire of Venn, centuries after the events they describe, by scholars working from oral traditions that had already accumulated layers of myth. What can be said with confidence: something was active in the world that operated by corrupting rather than destroying, that turned communities against themselves by weaponizing sincere intentions, and that proved extraordinarily difficult to confront directly because its instruments were, by the time anyone recognized them, people who believed they were acting rightly.
The Zorandor family's sustained opposition to Charoth across multiple generations is the only organized resistance the historical record documents from this period. How they recognized the pattern when others did not, and how they maintained purpose across generations against an enemy that specifically targeted sincere conviction, is not explained in any surviving source. Zebadiah Zorandor, the last of that line to act directly against Charoth, entered his prison willingly at the end of this era. His family's war effectively ended with him.
